About Me

My name is Muhammad Shakir. I am from Faisalabad, Pakistan currently residing in Germany for PhD in English Linguistics. My topic is related to study register variation in online registers of Pakistani English (blogs, comments, Facebook groups, status updates, and tweets) using Douglas Biber's (1988) Multidimensional Analysis framework. I have been trained mainly in corpus linguistics in last 10 years or so in the field of linguistics. I am a self-taught C# programmer (nothing fancy, just basic text processing and file manipulation). I have also learnt to use R programming language for plotting and statistical operations for my PhD.
I have worked as an Associate Lecturer at Centre for Languages and Translation Studies, University of Gujrat, Hafiz Hayat Campus (2014-2015). Sometimes I work as a translator from English to Urdu, Punjabi and vice versa. I also have a passion for blogging. I write Urdu and English blogs. I used to write for Monthly Global Science, Karachi and Monthly Computing, Karachi mostly about technology. I can be contacted through this page.
